Plantar Fasciitis Treatment

If you are suffering from heel pain, there is a good chance that you are suffering from plantar fasciitis. There is a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot. It connects your heel bone to your toes and is called the plantar fascia. If this band of tissue becomes inflamed, it causes plantar fasciitis.

What Are the Symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?

The most common symptom of this condition is a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near your heel. Most people with this condition report the pain being the worst when they take their first few steps in the morning. It is also triggered after standing long periods. Most people don't experience any pain while exercising; however, you will start to feel pain after.

What Causes This Condition?

The plantar fascia in your foot is a natural shock absorber, and it supports the arch in your foot. If there is a great deal of stress and pressure on the fascia, it can cause small tears. When the fascia is being constantly stretched and torn, it will become inflamed and irritated.

Who Is At Risk For Plantar Fasciitis?

While anyone can develop this condition, certain factors put you at greater risk.

  • Age: This condition is most popular in people between the ages of 40 and 60.

  • Exercise: People who participate in long distance running, jumping sports, ballet dancing, and aerobic dancing are at greater risk.

  • Foot issues: Flat-footed people are more susceptible to develop this condition. The same is true if you have a high arch or an abnormal walking pattern.

  • Obesity: If you are overweight or obese, your excess weight can put additional pressure on your feet causing the condition.

  • Certain occupations: People who spend all day on their feet at work can develop this condition. A few examples include teachers, factory workers, servers, and cashiers.

How Can a Chiropractor Treat Plantar Fasciitis?

This condition can be treated with regular chiropractic care. The reason you are in pain is because of the amount of stress that you are putting on the ligament. A chiropractor can make adjustments to remove some of the stress from the ligament, allowing the tiny tears to heal.
